Following the then fashionable trend, the SF31 was one of three half-litre 'Sloper' models that joined the range in the spring of 1931. Like that of its fellows, the newcomer's overhead-valve engine was inclined at 30 degrees from the horizontal, conveying the benefits of better cooling, greater accessibility, and a lowered centre of gravity for improved handling. A twin-pipe exhaust system, exiting from a transverse silencer box ahead of the engine, was a particularly striking feature. Having completed many Durban to Johannesburg events, this wonderful bike offers great classic touring.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0764/1517/2930/files/SOLD_4_51534dc4-bb2a-43a3-81ad-059e06eedda0.png?v=1702319928
1946-ford-v8-super-deluxe-coupe
1946 Ford V8 Super Deluxe Coupe
Civilian production of Ford resumed in July 1945, with an early start to the 1946 model year filling the public's thirst for new cars. The 1946 Ford was identical to the 1942 model under the skin, though a heavy new grille with horizontal bars and red accents modernized the car somewhat. The hood was widened by adding a center strip. One notable change was to use the Flathead V8 239 CID engine which since 1939 had been used in Mercurys and trucks, and capable of 100 hp (75 kW) for the first time. The 1946 Ford was the first model year after WWII and this amazing car was the top of the line. Ford Brochures at the time boasted that their 3 speed gearbox shifted effortlessy with the flick of a finger and that the high ratio 2nd gear would get you out in front fast without sacrificing top speed, performance or economy. This example is an older restoration that starts on a tickey and drives superbly given that the old girl is now 72 years old.

Gallery

[gallery link="file" ids="5268,5269,5270,5271,5272,5273,5274\

Jaguar XK120 caused an absolute sensation when it was launched at the 1948 Motor Show. In the post-war era of rationing, general austerity and hardship it came as a stunning vision of what the future might hold. It was, without doubt, the most beautiful car in the world, and the fastest un-supercharged production sports model ever made up to that time. Its claimed top speed of 120mph was so astonishing that to prove it Jaguar took one over to Belgium and clocked 132mph! The response from the public at the Motor Show launch on 20th October 1948 caught Jaguar by surprise, and as orders poured in it was immediately obvious that the level of home and export demand could only be satisfied by moving from a lightweight alloy-bodied ash frame construction to tooling up for volume production in steel. This took time to achieve and the first 57 right hand drive cars, and 183 left-hand drive cars, were hand-produced in lightweight aluminium alloy. Throughout the 6-year production run, Jaguar manufactured a mere 609 RHD roadsters for the home market and we are proud to be offering one of them here today. In fact, this is even more exclusive in that it was completed in June 1950 and is the oldest XK in South Africa and proudly features in the book “The Jaguar XK120 in The Southern Hemisphere” by John Elmgreen & Terry McGrath. It was first delivered to a Mr A Reid Walker and registered in the name of Mrs Catherine Elaine Reid-Walker then of Ackleton Manor, North Wolverhampton, Staffordshire. The car was exported to South Africa in February 1951 by Reid Walker who was a Scottish businessman on a six-month tour. It was tested by a reporter from the Johannesburg Sunday Express and pictured in that paper on the 11th February 1951 (a copy of the ad is in the book). By the 14th of May 1951 the car and its owner were back in England competing in the 9th Scottish Rally where, still sporting its South African plates, it finished 3rd outright. It is assumed the car had been purchased and taken to South Africa for the required period to overcome restrictions on buying new cars in the UK. However, the car returned to South Africa at some stage thereafter and was apparently acquired by a Swiss national in Johannesburg who used it as a daily driver and did some restoration work on it. When the owner returned to Europe in 1966, he sold it to Erich R. Exner of Bramley, Johannesburg who drove it for a few years and then restored it. After his death, it appears that it passed to his son Wayne. In 1973 the car appeared at the motoring Memories event at the then new Carlton Exhibition Centre in Johannesburg. In 2003 it was sold to Bruce Leslie of Johannesburg and he reported that in 2007 it was in excellent condition by then white with red trim and fitted with an aluminium undertray. The original colours were Red, Biscuit & Red, Fawn. Given the rarity, provenance and the fact that this is the quintessential roadster model, this car is a fantastic investment opportunity and would benefit from a concourse restoration.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0764/1517/2930/files/CopyofSOLD_7_eba0df49-488e-4123-b690-dcc7e9b445c4.png?v=1733231670
1955-triumph-tr2
1955 Triumph TR2

Fitted with period Supercharger.

The unique car offered here is the so-called 'Austrian Formula Junior' as featured in 'Formula Junior: The Complete A-Z' by Bernard Cowdrey (page 14). The car was built in Vienna - probably 1958/59 - by an Englishman called Atkinson who drove Jaguars in competition and taught at Vienna's Haupt-Technik-Schule. It is probable that the construction of both the car and its original alloy bodywork, which survives, was undertaken at the school. The workmanship is high quality, better for example than the contemporary Lotus, which suggests that the car was an engineering exercise. Close fitting, the bodywork must have been taxing to construct, while many of the mechanical parts (suspension, steering wheel, etc) appear to originate from a 500 Cooper. Ownership subsequently passed from Atkinson to Maydell, proprietor of a well-known Austrian engineering company, 'Windhagen' and then to Friedrich Painsipp, who was able to provide the vendor with details of its history. The car was next owned by Reinhardt Litz followed by Mark Lindstone, John Ferris and Brian Edwards, from whom it was purchased by the current vendor in 2003.

Details of the car's past are obtainable from records in Austria and Germany but it appears to have been infrequently used in period, as evidenced by the condition of the chassis. It seems to have raced mainly in Germany and Austria, with the occasional foray further afield, including on one occasion to Avignon. Its last known appearance on the track was at Salzburg in 1985 in the 'Mercedes-Benz Trophäe Alfred Neubauer' when, according to the programme, it was a 'Lotus Special' fitted with a 1,500cc engine. The XK150 was a progressive development of the XK120 and XK140, retaining the same basic chassis, 3.4-liter engine and four-speed Moss transmission of its predecessors. It benefited from a new, wider body that provided increased interior space and improved visibility, courtesy of a single-piece wrap-around windscreen that replaced the XK140’s divided screen.Cleverly, the new body used many XK120/140 pressings, the increased width being achieved by means of a 4”-wide central fillet. A higher front wing line and broader radiator grille were other obvious differences, but the new model’s main talking point was its Dunlop disc brakes. Fade following repeated stops from high speed had been noted on the earlier, drum-braked cars, but now the XK had stopping power to match its prodigious straight-line speed. Jaguar was justifiably proud, as it became the first manufacturer to offer four-wheel disc brakes on a series-production car. The XK150 was available at first only in fixed and drop-head coupé forms; the open roadster version didn’t appear until the following year. At 190bhp, the engine’s maximum power output was identical to that of the XK140, so performance was little changed. ‘Special Equipment’ and ‘S’ versions came with 210 and 250bhp respectively, the latter delivering an astonishing 0-60mph time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 136mph. This was achieved by the introduction of the Weslake-developed ‘straight-port’ cylinder head, high-compression pistons, triple 2” SU carburetors and twin electric fuel pumps. The car regularly recorded in excess of 130mph in magazine road tests. ‘The Jaguar XK150 is undeniably one of the world’s fastest and safest cars. It is quiet and exceptionally refined mechanically, docile and comfortable… we do not know of any more outstanding example of value for money,’ declared The Autocar. The car on offer here started off as a ropey Jaguar XK150S FHC and was sent to Bristol Classic and Sports Cars in Clevedon, North Somerset UK as the base for a complete ground up rebuild into a Drop Head Coupe with numerous enhancements providing unparalleled reliability, performance and usability. Some of the upgrades and modifications include stainless steel exhausts, 3X HD8 SU carbs, unleaded fuel conversion, Spax adjustable gas shock absorbers, powder coated chassis and suspension components, polyurethane sports suspension bushes, upgraded brakes but with original vacuum system, upgraded cooling system with Aluminium high performance radiator and Kenlow fan, 5 Speed gearbox, wider Multi spoke wheels and tyres, wood rim steering, power steering and air conditioner. The vehicle is also supplied with matching handmade fully leather luggage set (two duffle and two boot), a Jaguar Heritage Certificate and photo album of the complete restoration. The car has won all of the concours events that it has entered and has featured in the local Jaguar magazine as well the UK XK magazine. It is without doubt the finest XK in South Africa and amongst the best in the World. With Eagle enhanced Jaguars now selling for around £500K, this virtually brand new XK is ready to be enjoyed on a Sunday or perhaps as an everyday drive at a fraction of the cost.

National Concourse winner.

Discover the allure of a 1963 Corvette C2 Split-window coupe.

In its Riverside Red exterior, this Corvette C2 Split-window coupe exudes an understated charm that captivates attention. Their efforts culminated in the 1963 Austin Cooper S and Morris Cooper S. Besides a host of upgrades, the primary difference was a specially cast engine block and cylinder head that was more suitable for racing. The first Cooper S models used a 1071cc engine with a special nitrided steel crankshaft. Factory upgrades included larger front disc brakes, a vacuum-assisted brake booster and offset steel wheels which were widened to 4 1/2 inches by 1964. Despite only having around 75 bhp on tap, the Minis were very successful in GROUP 2 Rally Racing, winning the Monte Carlo Rally outright. This charming car was completed in 1964 and having covered 12993 miles is in original condition specification of green with off white interior. One man though, saw it quite differently. Racing car manufacturer John Cooper already knew quite a bit about tuning BMC's A-series engine, he was running the company's Formula Junior effort at the time and a test drive in a prototype Mini convinced him of the car's competition potential. The Mini Cooper soon established its credentials as a rally race winner and the stage was set for even faster versions. The first of these, the 1071cc Mini Cooper 'S' of 1963, took engine development a stage further and provided the basis for the 971 'S' and 1275 'S' of 1964.

The Mini Cooper 'S' 1275is finished in its exterior colour of red with red/off-white interior. The car is said to be in original condition and remarks by the owner says that the car could be considered excellent. Having covered a mere 8459 miles, this Cooper 'S' presents a sound investment, not to mention a whole lot of fun to drive today as if it was in 1965.

Gallery

[gallery link="file" ids="5824,5825,5826,5827,5828,5829"]

<span data-mce-type="bookmark" style="display: inline-block; Victories in the 1964, 1965 and 1967 Monte-Carlo Rallies set the Mini on the road to fame but probably the greatest publicity was gained from their somewhat unfair, disqualification for lighting irregularities in the 1966 event after coming in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. A more powerful Mini Cooper, dubbed the ‘S’, was developed in tandem and released in 1963. Approximately 2,500 Mk.II Cooper S were built making it one of the rarest versions of this very collectible motor car. This beautiful Mark II Cooper S has been restored to concours condition and is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner Offering all the performance and charm of the Mark II Cooper S is a fantastic opportunity to own a piece of motoring history.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0764/1517/2930/files/SOLD_8_f8cbc5b7-79f0-45c8-9301-e45b57377086.png?v=1716210592
1973-pontiac-gto
1969 Pontiac GTO

Unrestored and in concourse condition. The simple but effective Mk1 – in all its variations – might not be so readily available today, but its many successes on track and stage mean it’s still hot property. Featuring light and stiff two-door bodyshells, Escort Mk1’s had the genes for both cometative circuit racing and rallying. The 1966 BSCC champion John Fitzpatrick stated that “The Anglia had been a great little car but it wasn’t really quick enough; other cars had closed the gap. The Escort was a step forward, no question. It had a wider track, it handled beautifully and in time we were quick enough to beat the Capris.” This particular race car was developed and raced by well known classic car enthusiast and racing driver, Alan Green. Alan was more than competitive with 1:14’s at Zwarkops Raceway suggesting that this is one very quick historic race car. The car is race ready with widened rear arches, limited slip diff, straight cut gearbox and a highly specced and freshly built 2.0l Pinto engine.

Gallery

[gallery link="file" ids="5277,5278,5279,5280,5281,5282,5283,5284\
Glassport Motor Company (GSM) was a South African motor manufacturer based in Cape Town between 1958 and 1964. This, the CC, was Mazda's first two-stroke engine. Top speed was 90 km/h (56 mph). In 1970 new doors were developed, with sliding windows were exchanged for roll-down items, incorporating a quarter window. A ventilation vent was also added to the front. Like the Porter, the Porter Cab received the Chantez-derived AA engine in April 1973, which offered 30 PS (22 kW) at 6000 rpm, five less than in the Chantez. In January 1975, the Porter Cab too was lightly modified to fit the new larger license plates - hitherto, kei cars had carried smaller license plates than regular cars (230 mm (9.1 in) x 125 mm (4.9 in) rather than 330 x 165 mm). The Porter Cab, with its peculiar cowlings around the headlights carried an instantly recognizable "surprised" appearance. In April 1976 the Porter Cab also received an engine which met the new, tougher 1975 emissions regulations and the model code PC3A. The only color available was changed too, from light green to white. Like the Porter before it, the Porter Cab was labelled E360 in export markets. This concept vehicle used a cushion of air as propulsion on a circular dais. Late in the 1968 model year, Ford introduced the 428 cu in (7.0 L) Cobra Jet FE engine in a small group of Mustang GTs and into the 1968 Shelby GT500KR. This was a strong performer and indicated the direction of the 1969 Mustang. However, “GT” wasn’t a name that would initiate images of street screeching performance; hence the introduction of the Mach 1 title. The Ford Mustang Mach 1 is a performance-oriented option package of the Ford Mustang, originally introduced by Ford in August 1968 as a package for the 1969 model year. 1969 was the benchmark year for Ford Mustang in its proliferation of performance names and engines. No fewer than six factory performance Mustang models were available; GT, Boss 302, Boss 429, Shelby GT350, Shelby GT500 and the Mach 1. Additionally, seven variations of V8s were available in the 1969/1970 models; most of these also available in the new Mach 1. The Mach 1 title adorned performance oriented Mustang offerings until the original retirement of the moniker in 1978. The Mach 1 started with a V8 powered 'Sportsroof' body and added numerous visual and performance enhancing items such as matt black hood treatment with hood pins, competition suspension, chrome pop-open gas cap, revised wheels with Goodyear Polyglas tyres, chrome exhaust tips, livery and dealer optional chin spoiler, rear deck spoiler, and rear window louvers. Standard on Mach 1's was a fierce but cosmetic hood scoop that had integrated turn-signal lights mounted in the back. A more functional option was the signature 'shaker hood', an air scoop mounted directly to the top of the motor, used to collect fresh air and so named for its tendency to 'shake' above the rumbling V8 below. The interior came complete with teak wood grain details, full sound deadening material and high-back sport bucket seats. In 1969 endurance driver Mickey Thompson took three Mach 1 Mustangs to the Bonneville salt flats for a feature in Hot Rod magazine, in the process setting 295 speed and endurance records over a series of 500-mile and 24-hour courses. This fantastic, original example is presented in metallic blue and black with a black interior and is a genuine matching numbers car. It is powered by a 351 Cleveland 5800cc V8 via automatic transmission with Ram Air Injection. The car comes with power steering, disc brakes and its original radio. These models are extremely rare and sought after all over the world and this particular car would grace any private collection or indeed be an exhilarating everyday car. The sound of its V8 is certainly one to behold and even better when the accelerator is pressed hard!

Quote from Sports Car World June 1971 "Four cylinders ... fair enough. The 1300 was Honda's first attempt at producing a conventional sedan to compete with the Toyota Corona and the Nissan Bluebird, and the company was very ambitious, with Soichiro Honda involved in many aspects of the car's design, to include engineering ef forts for both the product and assembly procedures. Changes were made multiple times, sometimes on a daily basis, which hampered efforts in production. Mr. Honda was adamant that the engine needed to be air-cooled instead of water, claiming that "since water-co oled engines eventually use air to cool the water, we can implement air cooling from the very beginning."And suddenly, here was Honda coming from nowhere and building a more advanced car. At that time, the most powerful engine in Toyota’s rival Corona was a 1.6-liter inline-4 with a paltry 90 hp. For the production 1300, Honda wasn’t satisfied with the 100-hp Series 77 engine. In the months leading up to the car’s May 1969 introduction, Honda fought against delays as his engineers readied a 116-hp version of the Series 99 engine. The most aggressive model to roll off assembly lines, the 1300 Coupe 9, featured this very powerplant. Honda made 7881 Coupe 9s out of over 45,000 Coupe 7s and 9s from 1969 to 1973. All were right-hand drive. On the open road you would quickly be tempted to keep the engine running in the 5000-7500 rev range in third and top if you wanted to clock impressive times. The brakes were just as good as the performance: they would stop the car from 60 mph in just 3 seconds. Inside the steering wheel was mounted very high, but not to the point that you could not get into a comfortable driving position. The 7500 rpm red-lined tacho, speedo and fuel gauge were straight in front of you, with oil and amp gauges to the left, in a section of the dashboard that wrapped around towards the driver. The right-hand end curled back towards you too, giving an aircraft-like effect and making the entire gauge/control layout among the best of any car. Superb and incredible. Not our words, but those of motoring journalists after getting behind the wheel of the diminutive front wheel drive air-cooled Japanese Coupe.
